Match Report | Bromley 2-1 Shrewsbury

Town battled hard against league leaders Bromley but ultimately came away from the CopperJax Community Stadium empty-handed.

By the break, Bradley Ihionvien’s third minute opener was cancelled out by Marcus Ifill’s smart finish.

Bromley captain Kyle Cameron scored the winner early into the second half.

Team news:

Shrewsbury lined-up in their familiar 3-4-1-2 shape that saw Matt Cox start in goal.

Sam Stubbs, Tom Anderson and Josh Ruffels made up the back three.

Ismeal Kabia and Kevin Berkoe began the night at full-back; Temple Ojinnaka and Nick Freeman continued in the middle of the park.

Ihionvien and John Marquis got the nod in attack with Iwan Morgan operating slightly behind.

Bromley boss Andy Woodman went with a 4-4-2 shape that saw Damola Ajayi and Nicke Kabamba start up top.

Report:

The away side made a bright start to the early proceedings.

Ruffles was the first to latch onto a dangerous cross to the back post, but he wasn’t able to keep his effort down.

Just three minutes later, Anderson launched the ball up towards Ihionvien.

From the half-way line, the striker held off Ifill before firing the ball low and past Grant Smith.

The hosts came close to responding immediately but were denied as Cox made a smart save from Stubbs’ backwards header.

His opposite number also had to be alert in the 15th minute to stop Morgan’s goalbound shot.

From the resulting throw-in, Anderson’s flick-on was tapped home by Marquis, but the linesman’s flag quickly stopped celebrations.

With seven minutes to go until the break, Bromley equalised.

A lofted corner eventually fell to the feet of Ifill, who turned and lifted the ball beyond Cox.

Four minutes into the second half, the home side took the lead through Cameron.

The defender latched onto a cross into the box and sent his half-volley into the goal, via a deflection off Anderson.

Cameron looked to add to Bromley’s lead; his header was comfortably claimed by Cox.

Shrewsbury struggled to create much in the way of chances as they came up against a stubborn defence.

Substitute Isaac England tried his luck with a half-volley from the edge of the area – an attempt Smith was equal to.
