Host families

Would you like to have a positive impact on the life of a young footballer, or two?

Do you have a spare room and live in Shrewsbury?

If yes is your answer to these questions, then we have a great opportunity for you! Shrewsbury Town are looking to grow and add to our host family network to support several of our young players (aged 16 to 19) as they continue their football development experience.

Hosting a young player can be very rewarding, fun and provides extra income for you and your family.

We are seeking hosts who are either available for a short-term arrangement (July 2026 to May 2027) or willing to provide cover on an as-needed basis.

Please note that immediate availability is essential.

What do Shrewsbury Town provide:

• Regular monthly payments to you as a host.

• Transport for the young player to and from your home to training and matches.

• 24/7 support for the young player or you in the event of an emergency.

• Training for all host families, depending on their requirements.

• Potential tickets for first team home games.

What is required of you:

• Provide a warm, welcoming, safe and young person friendly household environment for up to five nights a week

Accommodation will generally be required from a Sunday evening until Saturday morning during the football season, with a break over Christmas and throughout June.

• Provide high-quality, nutritional meals (generally breakfast and evening, with occasional lunches) and be a non-smoking household.

• Support the young player by teaching them basic independent living and self-care skills such as washing clothes, cooking and cleaning up after themselves.

• Access to laundry facilities and Wi-Fi.

• A safe and suitable environment for the player.

• Private bedroom with a suitable bed.

• Undergo a comprehensive application and screening process, as laid out in our Safer Recruitment policy. This will include DBS checks (anyone living in the home aged 16 years or older), home visits and references.

• Communicate with the Player Care and Safeguarding Teams at Shrewsbury Town FC and the family of the young player.

• Adhere to any further and ongoing requirements of Host Families, as outlined in the application process, including home visits from our Player Care and Safeguarding Teams

All potential host families will be subject to:

• Satisfactory reference checks

• Enhanced DBS checks

• Mandatory safeguarding training

• Additionally, households must provide proof of gas servicing and comply with other health and safety regulations.

It would be great if you have:

• Experience working with young people.

• Understanding of the emotional impact and well-being challenges young athletes face.

• A child-cantered approach.
