Town drawn in Group E of Northern Section of EFL Trophy

Shrewsbury Town have been drawn in Group E of the Northern Section of the EFL Trophy alongside Tranmere and Stockport.

EFL Trophy group stage matches will commence in early September, with dates to be confirmed following the EFL’s fixture release day on Thursday.

Shrewsbury, Tranmere and Stockport will be joined in Group E by a Premier League under-21 team.

Aston Villa U21, Everton U21, Leeds U21, Liverpool U21, Man City U21, Newcastle U21, Nottingham Forest U21 and Sunderland U21 are the possible opponents in the northern section.

The draw for that will take place at 2.30pm on Thursday.

COMPETITION FORMAT:

The top two from each group progress to the knockout stages, with EFL Trophy fixtures remaining regionalised until the Quarter-Final stage.

Matches level after 90 minutes will be determined by penalty kicks up to, and including, the Semi-Final stage.

A period of 30 minutes of extra time will be played in the Final should the match be level after 90 minutes. If still level at the end of extra time, the winners shall be determined by penalty kicks.
