Update: Enhanced Searching Procedures at the Croud Meadow

Update: Enhanced Searching Procedures at the Croud Meadow

We want everyone to feel safe and welcome at the Croud Meadow, so following some recent concerns at home games, we’re updating and clarifying our approach to searching young people aged 14–18.

How We Make These Decisions:

The Matchday Safety Officer is responsible for deciding when searches of young people (under 18) and Adults at Risk are required. Our priority is that every search is carried out respectfully, with courtesy shown by everyone involved.

New Procedure for Supporters Aged 14–18:

Starting with this Saturday’s match against Crewe, all supporters aged 14–18 will be searched using a magnetic wand. This matches our ticketing policy, which allows fans in this age group to attend games without an accompanying adult.

If the wand detects something, stewards will follow these steps:

1. Ask the young person to empty and turn out their pockets.

2. Ask them to remove any outer jacket(s), which will be checked by another steward.

3. Ask them to roll trousers up to the knees and roll socks down.

4. If wearing trousers, ask them to pull their shirt out slightly at the waist so stewards can visually check the belt area.

5. Invite them to put everything back in place before moving on.

Children Under 14:

Children under 14 will not be searched unless:

· There is a clear and specific safety concern, and

· The child agrees, and

· Wherever possible, a parent or carer is present.

If a search is needed, stewards will explain why and follow the same steps as above.

A Quick Reminder:

Searching is part of our entry requirements, as outlined in our Customer Charter on the club website.

The rules in place at Shrewsbury Town are common practice at the vast majority of Premier League and EFL clubs.

We genuinely appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to make sure everyone can enjoy matchdays at the Croud Meadow safely and comfortably.
